MARRIOTT HOTEL COMPLEX UPDATE

  • News

The December 1st public hearing on the proposed Marriott hotel complex was well attended, with numerous community members speaking in opposition to the proposal. The Planning Commission will deliberate, then approve or deny the application, in the next public hearing on January 5, 2026.

The Planning Commission can deny a land use application if the reasons for doing so are supported by the Hood River Municipal Code, state law, case law, and precedent. Thrive’s updated testimony provides sufficient reasons for denial. Our testimony incorporates the information provided by the applicant and our further research to clearly detail how the project as currently proposed:

  • is incompatible with the site and the surrounding area
  • will create a parking shortage, particularly at public buildings
  • will cause crucial intersections downtown to fail

Our testimony also contains a suggestion for right-sizing the project to make it more appropriate for the 419 State Street site and for Hood River.
